Proportion

Proportion can be used to show the importance of one element over another. It has been freguently used in religious paintings to show the importance of the deity who often towers over all the other elements within the piece.

Proportion is used to signify depth and distance.

Many Surrealist artist used distorted propotions to convey ideas.
